Four players play bridge with two players each forming a partnership, and, the partners sit facing each other. The game rotates clockwise.  Players are named by the direction they occupy like North, South, East and West. All 52 cards are used to play bridge and each player is dealt with 13 cards each.

Bridge rules dictating the bidding are:-
• Every bid should be higher than the previous bid
• One can double the bid if the previous bid was not by one’s own team
• One can redouble the bid if the previous bid of the opponent was not doubled.
• There is an option to pass the bid without placing any kind of bid.
• A person who chooses to pass the bid can place a bid or double or redouble in the next round.
• Following 3 passes the last pass is considered for a contract. And the pass stops.
• The first player of the team (declarer) which declared the contract will make the bid denomination if mentioning the suits and trumps.
• The partner of the declarer is called the dummy.

Some of the notable bridge rules are:-
• A K Q J 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 ranks from high to low.
• The person who sits left to the dealer shuffles the card.
• The person who sits right to the dealer cuts the card.
• The dealer deals face down cards to each player one by one until each player receives 13 cards.
• The dealer position rotates clockwise followed by bidding.
• A bid indicates the presence of a trump suit and tricks.  Sometimes there may not be a trump.
• The person who bids high will attempt to win the maximum tricks along with having a specific suit as the trump.
• The trump suits for winning are ranked as spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs in the decreasing rank.  Spade are the highest rank, clubs are the lowest rank.
• The side which makes a bid for a large number of tricks always wins against the site with less number of tricks.
• Sometimes it happens that the number of bids for the number of tricks is equal between the sides, in such cases the tricks are decided for winning based on the rank of the suit.  The high ranking suit will win the game.
• Like in other kinds of poker, bridge rules also allows doubling of the  bids placed by one side by the other, which in turn can also be followed by redoubling.
• If the doubling bid wins, the score increases; if they lose there are penalties.
